Switching · changing registration provider

Switching to Stekker

The NEa registers one registration provider per connection per calendar year. A switch therefore always takes effect on 1 January. You sign up with Stekker now, and cancel with your current provider yourself before their deadline passes.

How it works

Switching in four steps

You take the first step with us, the second one yourself with your current provider. With that second step your connection is in our name from 1 January and we register your charging sessions.

  1. Sign up with Stekker and connect your chargerYou sign the authorisation and connect your charger. Keep your IBAN, the EAN code of your connection and your charger details at hand. Not sure whether your charger qualifies? Start with the charger check.
  2. Cancel with your current registration providerYou do this yourself, we cannot do it for you. Check their terms for the date that applies. At Stekker it is 30 November for a switch on 1 January, so the change of registration at the NEa can be processed in time.
  3. Your Stekker authorisation starts on 1 JanuaryUntil then your current provider remains the registration provider for your connection. There is nothing for you to do in the meantime.
  4. From 1 January Stekker registers your charging sessionsYour charger supplies the consumption automatically. Payment usually follows in the first quarter after the year in which you charged.

No registration provider at all yet? Then there is nothing to cancel and you can start right away.

Watch out

Where a switch goes wrong

One per connection

One provider per connection per year

The NEa allows one registration provider per EAN code per calendar year. That prevents the same charging consumption from being claimed twice, and it is why a switch never takes effect mid-year.

The deadline

Your old authorisation runs until you cancel it

If you do not cancel, on 1 January you are still registered with the NEa in your current provider’s name. Then you also miss out on our payout next year, the highest in the ERE market. Some providers want the cancellation as early as the end of November.

This year

This year’s sessions stay with your current provider

Everything you charge up to and including 31 December is registered by whoever is registered for your connection at that moment. From 1 January your kilowatt-hours count with us.

With us

Our authorisation runs for five calendar years and can be withdrawn every year

The agreement runs per calendar year and continues for one further calendar year at a time. You can cancel free of charge at any moment, effective at the end of the current year.

What it costs

What providers withhold

Everyone registers with the same NEa, uses the same factor and sells on the same market. The difference is what comes off your proceeds.

The percentages of other providers are their own published figures, checked on 19 August 2026. We sold 1,000,000 ERE’s on 4 August 2026 at €0.482 per ERE; that is in our sales logbook. If you combine ERE with smart charging, our commission is 25%. No subscription, nothing up front. Everything about our commission

Good to know

Frequently asked questions about switching

Does switching cost money?

With Stekker you pay nothing up front and there is no subscription. We withhold 15% commission on your ERE payment, 25% if you also use smart charging. What your current provider charges on cancellation is in their own terms.

Do I lose ERE’s by switching?

No. Your charging sessions up to and including 31 December are registered by your current provider, who pays them out under their own terms. From 1 January we take over. No period falls through the cracks, as long as you cancel in time.

How long does the switch take?

Signing up and connecting takes a few minutes. The switch itself takes effect on 1 January, because the registration at the NEa applies per calendar year.

What happens to my charging sessions between now and 1 January?

They count with your current registration provider, who is registered for your connection this year. You can sign up and connect in advance, so everything is ready when the year turns.

What if I do not have a registration provider yet?

Then there is nothing to cancel. You sign up and we register your charging consumption. Charging consumption qualifies from 1 January 2026, including sessions from before your sign-up, as long as they can be retrieved from your charger.

Can a provider tie me down for several years?

What another provider agrees with you is in their own terms. With us the authorisation is issued for five calendar years, and you can withdraw it at the end of each calendar year. The agreement itself is never entered into for more than one calendar year at a time.

Does my charger work with Stekker?

Your charger needs a built-in, MID-certified kWh meter, otherwise the consumption cannot be substantiated at the NEa. The charger check tells you straight away whether your model qualifies.
