Stekker started in 2019 as a consumer app for smart charging. That app still runs, but it comes from an earlier version of Stekker. For what Stekker does today, you do not need it.
You do not need the app to earn EREs
Earning EREs happens entirely outside the app. You authorise Stekker, we register your charging sessions and trade the units, and the proceeds land in your own bank account every quarter.

What Stekker is about now
Stekker is about EREs: the reward for the electricity you charge into your electric car at home. What is the ERE scheme explains how it works and what it pays.
Stekker is also going to offer smart charging for a separate reward. From 2027 that makes the app somewhat more relevant again: you will use it to steer your smart charging sessions.
What the app does today
In the app you set your charging preferences and follow your charging sessions. Per vehicle and per location you set:
- Your departure time: when does the car need to be ready?
- Which part of the battery charges immediately once you plug in
- Which part is planned smartly, based on energy prices and available solar energy
You also see your active sessions, your session history and what a session would have cost without smart charging. Push notifications tell you when a session starts, ends or stalls, and when your charging target is not achievable by the departure time you set. You switch them on or off per type in your settings.
If you manage charging infrastructure for an organisation, the organisation dashboard lets you filter sessions by location, charge point and user, and manage vehicles and charge cards.
Downloading the app
The Stekker App is in the App Store and on Google Play. After installing, you connect it to your charge point through your charge point operator (CPO) or with a pairing code from your organisation.
