EREs and feed-in: booking up to your net grid consumption

Households may not book more EREs than they draw from the grid, net, over a year. Without solar panels nothing changes.

The NEa has added a rule for booking EREs for private households: over a year, you cannot book more than you drew from the grid, net, in that year. If you have no solar panels, nothing changes for you. If you feed more back into the grid over the year than you take from it, the number of EREs goes down.

The rule

The NEa writes that no more may be booked than was drawn from the grid on a net basis. Net consumption is what you take from the grid, minus what you feed back. What you can book over the year is the lower of two numbers: what went into the car through your charger, and your net consumption.

After that, the NEa calculates as always with the average share of renewable power on the grid, also if you have solar panels. In 2026 that is 50.5%.

The NEa’s example

A household draws 2,500 kWh from the grid, generates 3,000 kWh with solar panels and feeds 500 kWh back. 3,000 kWh goes into the car.

Drawn from the grid 2,500 kWh
Fed back 500 kWh
Net consumption 2,000 kWh
Charged 3,000 kWh
Bookable 2,000 kWh

Who is affected

A house that uses 3,000 kWh a year, with a car that charges 3,000 kWh:

Generation per year Net consumption Bookable
No solar panels 6,000 kWh 3,000 kWh
2,000 kWh 4,000 kWh 3,000 kWh
4,000 kWh 2,000 kWh 2,000 kWh
6,000 kWh 0 kWh 0 kWh

As long as you draw at least as much from the grid over the year as you charge into the car, everything counts.

Check it yourself

  1. Take the annual statement from your energy supplier, or your smart meter readings on 1 January and 31 December.
  2. Subtract what you fed back from what you drew. That is your net consumption.
  3. Compare it with what you charged that year. The lower number is what you can book.

What Stekker does

To book your EREs, we need your net consumption over the year. We will let you know how to pass it on to us. We are also updating the calculator, so you can include your solar panels in the calculation.
