What are charging cards?
A charging card is an RFID card that identifies a user at a charge point. When someone presents a card, the charge point reads its unique ID. Stekker recognizes the card and automatically links the charging session to the correct account and vehicle.
Each card has a unique identification code of 8 or 14 hexadecimal characters (the UID). This is the number printed on the back of most charging cards, or that you can read with an NFC reader.
Adding charging cards
There are two ways to add a charging card to Stekker:
Adding manually
Go to Charging cards in the dashboard and click New charging card. Enter the card number: this must be a valid hexadecimal code of 8 or 14 characters (for example A1B2C3D4 or 04A3B2C1D4E5F6). Stekker always stores the number in uppercase.
Automatic detection
When someone presents an unknown card at one of your charge points, Stekker records the card number. These unknown cards appear at the top of the charging cards overview under Unknown cards, with the time and charge point where they were used. From there, you can register the card with a single click.
Linking to account and vehicle
When creating or editing a charging card, you can set two connections:
- Account — Link the card to a specific user within your organization. Charging sessions will then be assigned to that account.
- Vehicle — Link the card to a specific vehicle. Stekker uses the vehicle data (battery capacity, range) to optimize the charging schedule.
Both connections are optional. A card without an account connection is available for shared use.
Setting priority
Each charging card has a priority setting:
- Normal — The default setting. The vehicle is smart-charged within the available capacity.
- High — Vehicles with a high-priority card get priority when the available charging capacity is limited. Ideal for company vehicles that need to be fully charged at fixed times.
Public ID and contract identification
In addition to the hidden UID, you can assign a Public ID to each card. This is the visually readable number that is often printed on the front of the card. It helps with recognizing and managing cards in the overview.
Charging without a recognized card
When someone starts a charging session with a card that is not registered in Stekker, the session is treated as an unknown card session. Stekker can still apply smart charging to these sessions based on the default charging preference configured for the location. You configure this preference in the location settings under Default charging preference.
