Getting Started: Your First Week with Stekker

What to expect when you start using Stekker — from account setup to your first optimized charging session.

Welcome to Stekker

You have just signed up for Stekker — congratulations. This guide walks you through what to expect during your first week, from initial setup to your first optimized charging session.

Step 1: Account and Organization Setup

Your Stekker account is tied to an organization. This is typically your company, fleet, or household. During onboarding, your Stekker contact will set up your organization and invite you as a team member. You will receive an email with instructions to log in at stekker.app.

Once inside, you can invite additional team members and assign roles depending on who needs access to the dashboard.

Step 2: Adding Your Site

A site in Stekker represents a physical location with a grid connection — your office parking lot, depot, or home address. Each site has a contractual grid capacity (GTV) that Stekker uses to keep your total power consumption within safe limits.

Your Stekker contact will configure your site during onboarding, including the grid connection details and any solar installations.

Step 3: Connecting Charge Points

Charge points connect to Stekker through your Charge Point Operator (CPO) — such as E-Flux, Evesto, or Maxem. The CPO integration uses the OCPP protocol, which is the industry standard for charge point communication. In most cases, your CPO handles the technical connection; you do not need to configure anything on the charge point itself.

Once connected, your charge points will appear in the dashboard under your site.

Step 4: Setting Your Charging Preferences

Before your first session, take a moment to configure your charging preferences. The two most important settings are:

  • Departure time — When does the car need to be ready? The more time you give Stekker, the more it can optimize.
  • Charge target — How full should the battery be? The default smart charging target is 90%.

These preferences tell Stekker how much flexibility it has to shift your charging to cheaper or greener hours.

Step 5: Your First Smart Charging Session

Here is what happens when you plug in for the first time:

  1. You plug in your vehicle and authenticate with your RFID card.
  2. Stekker identifies the card, links it to your vehicle and account, and starts a session.
  3. The optimization engine evaluates electricity prices, solar forecasts, site power limits, and your preferences.
  4. A charging profile is created and sent to the charge point. Your car may not charge at full power immediately — that is the optimizer at work.
  5. Throughout the session, Stekker re-evaluates and adjusts the plan as conditions change.
  6. When you unplug, the session ends and your dashboard shows the results: energy delivered, cost, and savings compared to uncontrolled charging.

Step 6: Exploring the Dashboard

After your first session, head to your dashboard at stekker.app. You will see your completed session with details on energy consumed, charging cost, and how much you saved through smart scheduling. Over time, these savings add up and become clearly visible in the overview.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Stekker

  • Plug in early — The longer your car is connected, the more flexibility Stekker has to optimize. Plug in when you arrive, not just before you need to leave.
  • Set realistic departure times — An accurate departure time lets Stekker use the full window. Setting it too early limits optimization potential.
  • Connect your vehicle — If you drive a Tesla, Volkswagen, or Hyundai/Kia, connect your vehicle account so Stekker can read the actual battery level for better planning.
  • Check your dashboard weekly — Review your sessions and savings to understand patterns and confirm everything is working as expected.
