The advantage of connecting Stekker to a charge point is that any vehicle can smart charge through it. Stekker will control the charge through the plug itself, so it is agnostic which vehicle is hooked up specifically.
In theory, any charger that supports the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) should work with Stekker. But there are many subtle differences between these chargers and how they have implemented this protocol specifically - which makes it hard to give clear, singular answer to the questions about specific chargers.
Here’s a list of charger brands that we have confirmed to work well with Stekker (May 2023). Note: this does not mean that other brands don’t – we just haven’t had the opportunity to verify enough models from other brands:
Even better than a direct connection to your charge point, is a connection to your charger through the brand’s API. Chargers that can be accessed through their brand’s API are:
Stekker works best with energy contracts that vary their pricing. Stekker will hunt for the cheapest hours. Some of the names of these contracts are:
The best results are reached on a dynamic, hourly-based contract. This way, you’ll be able to charge for the lowest prices possible.
Stekker is compatible with solar panels, and will use them to power your home and car when it’s smart to do so.
We are actively expanding our level of support and compatibility with as many countries as possible. Right now, we have high levels of compatibility with rate plans and charging operators in:

Not all vehicles support smart charging, especially not older EVs. That's one of the reasons why Stekker works best by connecting to a charge point. At Stekker, we support multiple charge points, including Zaptec, and charge points connected to E-Flux or Ampeco.
When you start a charging session on your charge point, you will receive a notification from the Stekker app. Click on the notification to access the session edit screen, where you can set the current battery level of your vehicle using the black slider.
Stekker offers three sliders to optimize your charging process in this case.
The dark blue slider helps you set the current battery level.
The blue slider sets the battery level until which you would like to fast charge. Stekker will charge straight to this point as quickly as possible, for extra peace of mind about having a full battery in case of changed plans.
The green slider lets you set until where you want your battery level to smart charge. This means Stekker will monitor prices and carbon emmissions of the current energy mix, and will give you the most optimal charging scheme to save on costs and CO₂ emissions.
Stekker updates the battery level or state of charge in real-time during the charging session, based on the amount of energy delivered. You have the flexibility to adjust the sliders as needed during the session.
