Stekker switches to quarterly prices

From October 1, we only calculate in quarters, now that the day-ahead market is switching to that.

Stekker switches to quarterly prices

At Stekker we do smart charging. This means that our EMS looks at the availability of capacity at a location, does load-balancing and of course also monitors dynamic prices. We had set up our system for blocks of a quarter for a long time – and from October 1 that is also the national standard.

From October 1, dynamic prices on the EPEX market are namely standardly settled in quarters. This way grid operators can better control the availability of electricity on the grid and we better align with pricing in the rest of Europe. Our algorithms already assumed blocks of a quarter for most metrics, because other things were already determined that way.

Meanwhile we see that the data about the day-ahead market now comes in per quarter. This data comes from ENTSO-E (the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity).

For Stekker, not much is changing under the hood now – we mainly think it’s great that the market becomes more fine-grained in this way and electricity can be controlled more sharply. A large part of Europe is now switching over.
